What if Medicare for All also meant Long Term Care for All? That is what is being proposed by Bernie Sanders, and some other Democratic Presidential Candidates ahead of the 2020 election. One of the current hot topics in politics is “Medicare for All”, which is, basically, a law which would provide the same essential services as Medicare provides to senior citizens, to most or all Americans. There are many versions of the plan. Long Term Care coverage is a new wrinkle, which would, in theory, provide institutional or in-home care to elderly patients through a national health care plan. “Many Americans assume Medicare covers long-term care, but that’s not the case,” the article explains. About two-thirds of U.S. adults favor a long-term care program similar to Medicare, according to an Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll last year. While support is broad, one big concern is how to pay for a plan. Several independent estimates have ranged from about $25 trillion to $36 trillion over 10 years.

To date, in addition to Sanders, the plan is supported by other democratic presidential hopefuls, Cory Booker, Kristen Gillibrand and Kamala Harris. It is unclear where other candidates stand, although it is likely that President Trump would not favor any kind of Medicare for All plan.
