Decline in Life Expectancy Should Lead to a Rise in Estate Planning

Estate Planning and Long-Term Care Planning continue to come up in the news on a regular basis. The stories highlight the importance of Estate Planning for our clients in Green Bay, and how Long-Term Care Planning correlates. The latest example is a study produced by The BMJ which found that life expectancy in declined in 2015 across 18 high-income countries. The study opines that widespread declines in life expectancy may signal problems in a nation’s social and economic conditions or in the provision or quality of its healthcare services. The United States was among the countries that experienced the decline in life expectancy.

Declines in life expectancy should raise awareness for our current and future Estate Planning clients in Green Bay. While Estate Planning and Long-Term Care Planning involve preparing for the end of life, these studies show that life is ending faster than ever before. Procrastination can cause unnecessary headaches for loved ones. You do not have time to wait for the day that your Estate Planning or Long-Term Care planning is convenient!

It’s interesting to note that the study found that the U.S. decline had much to do with drug overdoses, alcoholism and suicide among people aged 20 to 30. However, the researchers felt it was important to point out that there are rising midlife death rates from diseases of heart, lungs, digestive systems and other organs. “Something far-reaching is affecting the health of Americans in the prime of their lives,” said lead Study Author Dr. Steven H. Woolf.

What should people in Green Bay do about it? Aside from taking care of yourself, living a healthy lifestyle, and having Estate Planning in place, it is also a good idea to think about how you intend to pay for Long-Term Care in Green Bay.
